In 1938, Carl Stotz had a simple idea: create an organized baseball league for the boys in his hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. With the help of fellow community members, Carl formed the league’s first Board of Directors. Although there was no official name and no games were played that first year, the foundation for something special had been laid.
In 1939, Carl and the community gave the league its name—Little League. On June 6, 1939, the very first Little League game was played in Williamsport. From those humble beginnings, Little League has grown into one of the largest and most respected organized youth sports programs in the world, reaching communities across all 50 states and more than 80 countries.
That same spirit of community, teamwork, and opportunity is at the heart of North Pocono Dandy Lion Little League.
Serving families throughout the North Pocono area of Northeastern Pennsylvania, our league has a proud history of providing children with the opportunity to learn, grow, compete, and build lasting friendships through baseball and softball. In 2024, North Pocono Dandy Lion Little League celebrated 75 years of serving local youth, continuing a tradition that began generations ago.
Today, our league proudly serves more than 400 young athletes, ages 4 through 16, across more than 30 baseball and softball teams. From our youngest players taking the field for the first time to our older athletes preparing for the next level, we strive to create an environment where every child has the opportunity to develop their skills, gain confidence, learn the value of teamwork, and make memories that last a lifetime.
But our league is about more than baseball and softball. It is about community. It is about parents, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and families coming together to create opportunities for the children we serve. Every practice, game, event, and improvement to our fields and facilities is made possible by people who believe that our kids deserve the very best.
Our commitment can be summed up in the words that have guided North Pocono Dandy Lion Little League for generations:
“Where the Children Come First.”
That is more than our motto—it is the foundation of everything we do.
